Each month, we donate of portion of our profits to a child with medical needs through the Legendairy Littles program. For the month of December, we have selected an adorable little boy named Kai.
At a 12 week ultrasound, it was discovered that Kai had Giant Omphalocele. This is a condition where some the organs are on the outside of the body with only a thin layer of skin that covers them. Kai’s intestines, partial liver, and partial stomach are included in this Giant Omphalocele. Since receiving this news, Kai’s pregnancy was monitored closely and he was born via C-section. Kai then spent his first 7 months in the NICU until he was able to come home on October 2, 2018 and meet his older brother for the first time. During his NICU stay, Kai was unable to come off of his vent support, so at three months old he received a tracheostomy tube. Kai was also diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, bronchomalacia, and chronic lung disease.
Kai is loving his life at home with his family. He is a trooper with the many car rides to and from appointments, but he does not like the ambulance rides he has had to take. He is doing amazing and continues to grow while attending physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Looking ahead, Kai will need to have his stomach repaired. For now, he continues to light up every room with his beautiful, bright smile.
A portion of all Legendairy Milk purchases during the month of December will go to Kai’s family to assist with his ongoing care needs. If you would like to donate directly to the family, their GoFundMe page is: https://www.gofundme.com/kairane
