Each month we donate a portion of our profits to a child with medical needs through the Legendairy Littles program. The month of August we have selected Luna who has Gastroschisis.
Luna is a beautiful and strong willed little girl who is celebrating her half birthday on August 19. She was born with a birth defect called Gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is when an infant is born with their intestines on the outside of the body, exiting through a hole next to the belly button. There is no known cause for this and there are no known connections to a genetic disorder. Although this is a rare birth defect, the number of babies born with Gastroschisis has nearly doubled in the past 23 years. Luna required surgery soon after birth and was in the NICU for 21 days. In the near future she will have to follow up with her surgeon to ensure her surgery was successful. Additionally, Luna has a valve in her heart that has not closed fully and is being seen by a cardiologist to monitor this closely. The Legendairy Littles donation will help the family with the financial portion of future visits to Luna’s cardiologist.
